Let’s talk about Melamine!

Melamine is a thin veneer that overlays a core of MDF. This idea is nothing new, it is just like our other double sided materials. Cherry double sided is a thin veneer of Cherry that overlays a core of MDF. Walnut double sided is a thin veneer of Walnut that overlays a core of MDF.  What makes Melamine different then these is that it is pre-finished. This saves you time and money when making projects. It also means that you can’t change the color with stain, but with the beautiful finish you don’t need to.
One thing to know about Melamine is that it cannot be manufactured thinner than 1/4”.  Believe me, we have researched this one.  The Melamine veneer is too thin for the thinner width.  Melamine is laser safe, so this will put your mind at ease about engraving or cutting it with your laser.
Fox Teakwood Melamine Tray
You will recognize melamine from around your house as it is used in kitchen cabinets and some furniture.
The surface is very durable. It engraves extremely well. The MDF core turns a nice dark brown and the edges of the melamine engrave are very sharp, so it is amazing to use for wall hangings and signs. Its surface is washable and resists stains so the light colors, at least, work well with dry erase markers.
We now sell 11 different Melamines!  They are in WhiteBlackNatural MapleFox TeakwoodBirchAlabama Cherry, Candlelight Apple, Planked Coffee Oak, Black Riftwood, Chocolate Apple, Silver Frost and Blooming Cherry. Cut settings range between 110/full to 115/full depending on the color.  For all of our cut settings you can find them by following this link. https://craftcloset.com/blogs/news/recommended-cut-settings
