White Oak varies in color from light to medium brown with an olive, yellow or reddish tint. It has straight grain, with medium bending and crushing strengths making this excellent steam bending material. It is strong and beautiful.  It glues, stains and finishes well.  White Oak is the state tree of Connecticut, Illinois, and Maryland.

What does Rustic mean? We sell several of the species in both Clear and Rustic. Rustic is a grade that shows more grain pattern and knots. The boards are quite variable with some looking very close to the Clear boards and some with more knots or pattern. There are also some areas where a patch has to be used a filler if a small circle of wood is missing. We have tried to show several pictures to show the extreme variability of what you may receive. If you need that perfect looking board, then buy the regular species, not rustic. But if you want to use the random, natural wood appearance, then give it a try.
