How to Make Stamp Files

How to Make Stamp Files

1. Create the design that you want to make into a stamp in black color.

2. Create a shape around the part you want to make into a stamp.

  • Set the fill color of the shape to white.

  • Make a duplicate of the shape for a cut line.

  • Fill color of duplicate shape: none

  • Stroke color of duplicate shape: red (or a different color).

3. Set this shape off to the side.

We don’t want to get it mixed in with the stamp just yet.
Click on the shape and send it to the back behind the part you want to make into the stamp.

4. The laser will engrave anything that is black and leave anything that is white.

  • Select all of the design and shape and invert colors.

  • On Illustrator: click on Edit > Edit Colors > Invert Colors.

5. Make it a compound shape.

  • On Illustrator, select all and click on Pathfinder > Exclude.

6. Reflect the image so that it engraves correctly to make the stamp work right.

  • On Illustrator, click on Object > Transform > Reflect > Vertical 90 degrees.

7. Move the duplicate shape cut line to line up exactly with the stamp shape.

8. Create the handle and make the cut lines a different color than the stamp cut lines.

9. Save the file as an SVG.
