Size:

12x19 inches.   Materials are advertised at 12x19 inches. There is some variation though due to the manufacturing and cutting process that can result in pieces being narrower in some cases. We will not send out boards less than 11.75x18.75 inches.

Thickness:

1/8th inch / 3mm although there is variation between 2.6mm - 3.4mm due to manufacturing process leading to some variation.  We recommend a focus height of 3mm.  But calipers can be used for exact thickness.

Masking:

Both sides are masked to prevent scratches damage during shipping.  It is laser safe.  However, the masking sometimes does not adhere well to the acrylic.  Paper masking that that is not adhered can be a fire hazard.  The masking is not necessary on the top face to prevent scorching, so we actually recommend cutting without the top masking but leaving the bottom masking in place.

Cut Edges:

We purchase the material in 4x8 foot sheets then cut down to size with a saw.  Although we take precautions to avoid chipped edges and corners, this does sometimes occur.  Because the acrylic is intended for laser use, we assume that the very edge is not used.  These chips will not encroach more than 2mm and so should not affect the usable area.  But if you are using the material for a project that requires perfectly smooth edges, please purchase the material and email us at info@craftcloset.com and let us know of your needs so we can select the pieces.

Cast Acrylic:

Excellent optical properties, light weight and stronger than glass, this premium cast acrylic is a superior product to use for trophies, signs, handicraft, laser cutting and an endless variety of other applications.

Laser Safe:

This acrylic can be used with Glowforge, Mira, XTool P2, OmTech, Thunder, Trotec, Epilog, Aeon and other lasers, routers, Dremels and scroll saws. It can also be glued, bent with heat, and drilled.

The metallic coloration extends through the sheet. Both sides have the metallic reflective surface. However, due to the manufacturing process, one side is perfectly flat but the one side may have “flow marks.” This means that the melted acrylic did not perfectly flatten out on the top side when produced. This has resulted in some sheets having some irregular surface. So it is best to plan one sided projects, or smaller projects which can work around these lines. This is the most beautiful acrylic material we sell.  It is absolutely amazing and we know you will love it, but we want you to understand the limitations with one side of the material. We have shown images below so you can see what we mean by the “flow marks.” Also, while most acrylics do fine removing the masking, this material cuts best with the masking in place.
